Persistent Hope

Updated: May 15, 2020

"Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful." ~ Hebrews 10:23 (NIV)

I have a friend who has a dog. In truth I have many friends who have dogs, but for the sake of this moment, I would like to tell you about this dog in particular.

This dog's name is Molly and she is a great lover of vegetables, cucumbers most of all.

One night, I was in her mother’s kitchen making a cucumber salad. (She types as she rolls her eyes, having not remembered what a challenge it would be to accomplish said feat, given that delightful canine’s affinity for cucumber.)

I sliced, salted, and dried the cucumbers, a process that takes about an hour. Throughout the whole thing, there sat Molly waiting for her allotment, sometimes patiently, sometimes not so much. I always save the ends and usually an extra measure of the good stuff for her.

When I was finished I put it in her bowl, she enjoyed it with gusto, and immediately returned to her position by the counter in the hope of more as she was clearly aware of the uneaten sliced salad just beyond her reach.

When she did, I smiled, shook my head, and said, “Molly, I admire your persistent hope.”

She's not just that way about produce mind you, she loves her racket balls too. Happy and vivacious, no matter how long it's been since the last time the ball was out, she is ever the optimist.

What a lesson we could all learn from Molly. Particularly in this time of great cultural and global sadness and challenge. The news is rife with things that break the communal heart of humanity, people have been without jobs, incomes, homes, etc. for a long time now.

I suspect we could all do with a hearty helping of persistent hope and perpetual optimism.

No matter whence our challenges in this life hail, we could all take a page out of the book of Molly.

Blessings, love, persistent hope, and perpetual optimism to us all.

Thank You, Father, for helping us all to have persistent hope, persistent faith, to forever walk in Your way, and to draw nearer to You with each passing day. Amen.

"I know the plans that I have for you, declares the LORD. They are plans for peace and not disaster, plans to give you a future filled with hope." ~ Jeremiah 29:11 (GWT)

"'What do you mean, ‘If I can’?' Jesus asked. 'Anything is possible if a person believes.'" ~ Mark 9:23 (NLT)

May the Good Lord bless you and keep you, friends... always, in all ways. Amen.

Bonus song of praise...
