Obedience & Trust

"'Come,' said Jesus. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus." ~ Matthew 14:29

Sometimes we hear the whisper of that still small voice...

Sometimes there's no question God is leading us in a certain direction...

Sometimes it seems to take a 2x4 to get me to obey.

I don't know about you, maybe you're quick to follow His leading.

One of my constant prayers, in the form of an assumptive close, is "Thank You, Abba Father, for giving me the eyes to see, the ears to hear, and the will to walk in Your way."

I want to, I really do.

Yet, sometimes I find myself hesitating to step out of the boat.

Sometimes I hesitate even when I KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that what lay before me is a far greater blessing than what lay behind.

I linger in limbo.

I hope none of you knows what I'm talking about. I hope you're clear in His guidance and you never hesitate.

I have to say, in some ways I "pride" myself on being obedient, on practicing obedience day to day, on asking for direction and following. (I must admit, pride seems like a bit of a dangerous word there, but I'll go ahead and use it because I think you'll get the gist, even and especially knowing I wish I could think of a better word.)

I don't know the source, but I once heard it said, "Your part is to trust and obey. God's part is to move the mountain."

Our job is to step out of the boat when asked, even when we have no idea where it may lead.

I find myself at a critical turning point. I don't think fear is necessarily a factor, although we all have uncertainty in approaching the unknown. That's simply human nature. But, He's asking me to step out of the boat and have faith.

So, I must endeavor to keep my eyes on Him, to forget the storm and the wind and the waves... to look up and know He knows what lay ahead, to have faith in His guidance, and to know with absolute certainty that whatever His plan may be for my life, it's far greater than anything I could imagine.

And, I do.

Of that I am sure.

I pray you are equally sure, if not more so.

I pray you have faith greater yet than even Peter, that you don't hesitate to step out of the boat in whatever area of life the Spirit is nudging, in whatever area He is calling you out to walk on water.

In ways large and small, He is there for you. In obedience minor and great, if only we'll keep our eyes on Him, follow His lamp unto our feet and light unto our path, we'll get there, and oh what joy the journey will hold.

I pray for you with such fervent abandon. I am grateful for you.

Rather than offer my own words today, I thought I'd propose the following as prayer...

Amen, indeed.

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." ~ Proverbs 3:5-6

"But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in Him. He is like a tree planted by the waters that sends out its roots toward the stream. It does not fear when the heat comes, and its leaves are always green. It does not worry in a year of drought, nor does it cease to produce fruit." ~ Jeremiah 17:7-8

"Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness." ~ Psalm 37:3

May the Good Lord bless you and keep you, friends... always, in all ways. Amen.
