Merry Christmas Eve

Updated: Sep 1, 2021

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made, and without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." ~ John 1:1-5

In yesterday's Facebook Midweek Motivation video, I mentioned something I'm not sure I explained well.

When I think about the seemingly arbitrary time of year that was chosen to celebrate the birth of the savior... some scholars think it was chosen to attempt to usurp a pagan holiday, others to merge with pagan traditions, and others yet, who knows what.

I happen to think it a perfect "Godincidence." In other words, it seems to me to be no mistake, from an eternal perspective.

We know for certain that Yeshua, the Messiah was not born on the night of December 24th.

But, think for a moment about the timing.

We just passed the winter solstice.

With that, the days of the year (in the Northern Hemisphere) begin to grow longer. Granted, I acknowledge this analogy only works for those of us geo-situated advantageously, but stick with me because Israel also applies, so I'm feelin' it.

The days of the year have just begun to grow longer, ever more light.

We await the light...

As we await the Light.

Tonight we honor the long awaited moment in which the Light of the World came to earth to dwell among us as man.

May you be blessed with peace in the waiting and allow Him to take up permanent residence in your heart, this night and always. Amen

A few small contributions to honor this Christmas Eve night.

This was the 30th year I had the privilege of providing Christmas music for the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, the church in which I was baptized as an infant. We had to pre-record our contribution. I thought perhaps I would share them here as well as the church sharing as they are able and choose.

"The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth." ~ John 1:14

And, truly, what would Christmas Eve be without a little wisdom from Linus?

May the Good Lord bless you and keep you, friends... always, in all ways. Amen.

My special someone is from Austria. In his efforts to send me a Frohe Weihnachten wish, this is what he found. It truly was a gift that brought an extra measure of peace to my day, I hope it offers you the same. Merry Christmas Eve to all, and to all a good night.
