"In the beginning God created..."
~ Genesis 1:1a
It would probably be slightly more accurate to say, one of my favorite sounds is a hammer on wood. To me, it means something really special is happening.
The beauty of creation is transpiring within earshot.
If you haven't known me long, you may not know that my father is a carpenter... not the Jewish one from Galilee, the one from whom genetically I descend. He's a carpenter and he is remarkably skilled at his craft, so the sound of hammers on wood means something wonderful is coming into the world.
For me, when I'm typing in the zone, that's a similarly wonderful sound. When all of the gears are engaging and turning, something is being created... hopefully something that will make a difference in a life.
What are those things for you? What makes you smile with inner satisfaction, knowing that the contribution you are meant to make is being let loose in the world?
Someone very dear to me is a commercial pilot. I haven't asked him, but perhaps it's the smell of jet fuel in his line of work/contribution.
For a stay at home mom, maybe it's the sound of laughing children. I don't know what it is for you, but I suspect you do.
There are two things I might say about this...
One... If you don't know what I'm talking about, seek out those little things. The small moments that give you an elevated sense of engagement or satisfaction. You deserve those lifts in life, and if we're willing to have the eyes to see, I believe our Heavenly Father will grant them.
And, two... I feel like the sense of inner-satisfaction that comes as a fundamental element of those experiences/moments are an indicator of being on the right path. I believe they're one of God's ways of saying, "Yes, that. Keep up the good work."
Maybe it's a silly little contribution, but I think we need to tune our ears, eyes, and hearts to the moments of confirmation of the Father. This is just one more way to open our hearts, trust, and obedience to Him.
Abba Father,
Thank You, for being present, even in the smallest moments.
Thank You, for helping us realize that what might seem insignificant may not be insignificant at all.
Thank You, for helping us to open our minds and hearts to Your guidance and confirmation, gestures large and small; that we would know it, internalize it, and go where You would have us go, do what You would have us do, be the child You would have us be.
Thank You, for helping us to be co-creators with You.
All of these things we pray in the most holy name of Your Son.
Amen.
"My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me." ~ John 10:27
"And whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you: 'This is the way. Walk in it.'" ~ Isaiah 30:21
"You gave Your good Spirit to instruct them. You did not withhold Your manna from their mouths, and You gave them water for their thirst." ~ Nehemiah 9:20
May the Good Lord bless you and keep you, friends... always, in all ways. Amen.
Bonus song of praise... ♥
