Have you ever uttered the words, "I hope I heard Him right"?
Discerning the voice of God, following His guidance is something we do by faith, and by faith I believe we can be confident that we do hear Him clearly.
It's interesting to me that He speaks to us all in different ways.
When the Holy Spirit whispers to you, do you ever actually hear Him?
I'm not sure I've ever personally heard the audible voice of God... although... well, that's a story for another time. But, I have heard stories.
There was one man in particular, a friend of a friend, who for years and years prayed and prayed to hear the audible voice of God and one day while driving, he did. The indescribable voice said, STOP. He did, and a child's life was saved.
It happens.
Look at Samuel. Honestly, that's one of my favorite stories in the Bible. God speaks and Samuel runs to Eli to say, I'm here, you called, over and again, not recognizing the source. Fortunately, Eli does.
For me, it's typically something of a visceral whisper. More often than not, it's a question and answer session. I ask questions, and our loving Father is kind enough to give me guidance. That opening of the spirit that comes when you hear or speak truth is the best way I can describe it. And, an appreciable percent of the time, it's not what I would want or choose. On those occasions, I smile and say, "You're the boss," and do my mortal best to be obedient.
Jehovah speaks to us through His Word and through knowing Him through His word.
He does give us wisdom and discernment and guidance to direct our path, when we ask for it and are open to receive it.
The way that will show up for you in any given moment?
I honestly cannot say. That's between you and God.
But as the Son promises, I truly believe you will know His voice when you hear it... whatever form it takes.
Be confident and know. Stand sure in the faith that what He has for you to receive, you will indeed receive.
And, you will know the Voice of your Shepherd, of His Spirit, of your Creator.

Heavenly Father,
Whether a burning bush, thunder, a donkey, or a Still Small Voice, thank You for Your willingness to communicate with us.
Thank You for Your promises and Your guidance.
We trust You. We choose You. We love You.
All this we pray in Your most holy names.
