An Ebenezer? I wouldn't be surprised if this was something unfamiliar to most. In my circles, it's something we talk about quite a bit. Being mountain girls, several of us have the habit of picking up stones and rocks in poignant moments. Some of mine have a note on them reminding me of the moment they were picked up and held to my heart to hold a moment. Others, I just know there was a reason and I figure the rock remembers why... well, not really, but you know what I mean. I even have one friend that hunts beautiful river rocks and then creates amazing art out of them. I have two of them myself, one says Truth, the other Hope.
All of that to say, discussion of ebenezers is pretty common amongst my peeps. But, what are they? Technically, it translates as a stone of help... and, frankly, I'm not sure what that means. But, when I think of an ebenezer, I think of a stone set apart in acknowledgment of God having done something marvelous, or simply having shown up as the sweet sweet Father He is. It's a way of remembering, of being reminded day by day of His goodness, His mercies, and that He is ever at work in our lives, no matter the circumstances.
"I will seek the lost, bring back the scattered, bind up the broken, and strengthen the sick..." ~ Ezekiel 34:16 (NASB)
"Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." ~ Hebrews 4:16 (NIV)
"God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day." ~ Psalm 46:5 (NIV)
May the Good Lord bless you and keep you, friend... always, in all ways.
Bonus song of praise... ♥
